RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES
July 13, 2019

The meeting of the WLE POA Recreation Committee was called to order by Tri Chair Frank Carrotozzolo at 10:08 a.m. July 13, 2019.  Thirty-nine members were present. All rose for the Pledge of Allegiance. 
The minutes of the previous meeting were distributed and membership given a few minutes to look at them.  Frank asked if there were any changes or additions.  Dan Braun suggested wording for Movies in the Park and Family Bingo be changed since they are repeated events.  Frank wanted minutes to note he requested funds for new microphones and lights for tent used for Music in the Park.  Motion made to accept minutes as changed; and by raise of hands, motion carried.

Frank received the Treasurer's report without time for tri-chairs to go over it.  Tabled for next meeting.   

Old Business:
Bob's Game Night for Kids   Bob Kaminski reported that he feels group has increased in number.  Others expressed their opinions. Bob requested additional funds to supply pizza for gamers. Discussion ensued.  Frank asked Bob if he required sign-in sheets and Bob said he has turned them into office.   After discussion, Frank explained that number of participants does not warrant Recreation paying for their dinner each time they meet. Eileen McGregor suggested that parents do pot-luck some evenings.  Bob introducing Magic Monday.  Rachel Harmuth informed committee that activity has been positive for her son.

July 6 Golf Cart Parade   Jerry Beskovoyne reported that it was a huge hit.  He thanked all that helped including Neighborhood Watch and Safety.  He will organize again next year.

Movies in the Park -  Frank announced first movie was July 3. He felt there were approximately 50 in attendance the first night and 70 at the most recent showing.

Family Bingo  - Marge Kinney reported that bingo is in full swing.  To date she has made $1,349.

Pickle Ball  - Maryann Zabransky reported that the courts have not been upgraded yet.

Casino Trip - Terry Cucciniello informed committee that the first bus is full and the second half filled. 

Ballroom Dancing  - Terry Cucciniello reported Ballroom Dancing going well.  It is offered at the main clubhouse every Sunday from 3-5:00 p.m.
Zumba and Zumba Gold have been added to the Recreation Schedule.  They will be held Monday and Friday evenings at 6:00 - 7:00 for Zumba Gold and 7:00 - 8:00 for Zumba.

Tents - Frank advised committee that after setting up all the tents, only needed one tarp.  That was replaced and tents are in good shape.

Microphone  - Frank checked speaker system including microphone and cables.  Purchased needed items at a few dollars.

Texas Hold'Em - Last night's Texas Hold'Em had 21 people participate, small profit made and was a nice evening.

Swim Team - Rachel Harmuth reported that team held their annual Blue/White competition.  This is when swim team competes against itself giving some of the swimmers their first experience at a meet.  Team held parents'meeting in July giving some of the summer people a chance to participate.  Approximately 60-70 swimmers.  Team will have their Spaghetti Dinner July 31; the night before Championships (August 1).  WLE host of this year's Championships. Rain date will be August 2.  Team Banquet will be August 3 at the Main Clubhouse. Ana Tavoline reported that she is working on Tricky Tray (July 31).  Rachel told committee that they are planning a "Float and Flick" event for swim team members and their families, details to follow.

Cardboard Boat Race  - Scheduled for August 17 and 18.  Last year they had to scramble for Duct tape.  Rachel made a motion to increase the budget to $900 to purchase larger amount of tape, seconded by Ana Tavoline.  Vote of hands taken, motion passed.

Ambassadors Dinner -  Jay Rivera reported group met Thursday evening.  He wants to thank Stephen Kriso for his photograph on the cover of welcome packet.  Community dinner on track.  Jay is talking to Ritter's this week to   ascertain what they are donating.  Still some question about wine tasting.  Date is August 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Main Clubhouse.  Sign-ups can be made in office.  Donations will be collected.  Next Ambassadors' meeting will be July 25 at 6:30 in the Adult Lodge.

Jay asked if he could attend Music in the Park with a sign-up sheet for the Community Dinner.  He can.

Scavenger Hunt -  Joanne Navarra and Terry Cuccinniello chairing this event at Rockledge Pool this afternoon.

Comedy Night    Doreen Napoli announced the next Comedy Night will be Saturday, July 20, starting at 7:00 in the Main Clubhouse.  Tickets are selling now.  Hopefully more will be sold closer to the event.

Paint & Sip  - Doreen Napoli presented two new Sip and Paint events;  first on Thursday August 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Clubhouse.  Subject will be a stencil on wood of the WLE logo.  Fee charged will be $25 per person, BYOB; open to anyone 13 years and older.  Minimum number needed 20; maximum number 40.  We are charged $15 per person. 
Second night will be Thursday, August 29.  This painting will be done on canvas. 7:00 p.m. Main Clubhouse.  Fee charged will be $25 per person, BYOB; open to anyone 13 years and older.  Minimum number needed 20; maximum number 40.  We are charged $15 per person. 
Frank Carrotozzolo made a motion that Doreen Napoli run two Paint & Sips, Jay Rivera second, no opposed, motion carried.

Flea Market  - Bree Della Bella chairing for July 27.  Table reservations are where they normally are at this time.  Eileen McGregor asked if Bree knew how many hot dogs were made by Vinny Settepani in the past.  Bree did not know any numbers.  Joanne Navarra made a motion to budget $500 for the hot dogs, seconded by Ana Tavoline.  Frank asked for vote, no opposition; motion passed.  Leftovers will be used at the Grand Opening in August. 

Fishing Derby to be held August 10, Deer Lake Beach at 10:00 a.m.   Terry Cucciniello advised slight change this year - gentlemen who conducts clinic not available.

Music in the Park Terry reported that is all set.  Tonight's performance will be held at Kasper Lodge because Rockledge construction not complete.

Eileen McGregor asked the assemblage for their thoughts on purchasing a rolling grill for hot dogs.  No one was in favor.

Joanne Navarra announced the Grand Opening of Rockledge Pool taking place on August 10 starting at 1:00 p.m.  There is a list for signing up as volunteer here at the meeting and also in the office.  There will be a D.J. all day orchestrating games with kids and adults.  No golf cart parade.  Recreation will prepare food and charge to sell.  Joanne Navarra advised Paul Pogozelski that a diagram will be provided to set up tents.  Bartenders will be needed.

Frank Carrotozzolo toying with idea of holding Movie Night in the Clubhouse when it rains.  Most thought it a good idea.

Terry Cucciniello reported that Texas Hold'Em will take place again on August 9 in Beaver Lodge.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
Labor Day Weekend - Triathlon and Tricky Tray on schedule.

Jerry Beskovoyne suggested DJ for Grand Opening set up on pump house.  Discussion as to whether or not a good/safe idea.

Reminder that Swim Team responsible for 50/50 at Grand Opening.  They will also have their bake sale that day. 

Jay Rivera and Cathy Lauda collected the 50/50 at tonight's Music in the Park.  Several members volunteered including Joanne Navarra, Cathy Lauda, Carol Ann Lauda, Carol Rivera, Sue Mack, and Bree Della Bella.

Terry Vetter reported that she started Craft Shop with stock valued at $4,068.75.  She now has $1,586.75 still due. 

Jack Vetter inquired of the tri-chairs if hamburgers were on the menu for Grand Opening.   Since they are on the menu, he will get grill out and prep.  Board members will man the grill.  Jack and/or Dan Braun will contact Locklin Gas and make the arrangements for propane that day.

Terry Cucciniello reported on Summer Recreation program.  Rene doing a great job.  Good numbers participating.  Terry will continue adding events to the calendar.

Terry expressed her opinion that the event paperwork is very difficult.  She would like to see a more simplified document; felt the old paperwork was better.  Some discussion ensued.  Frank invited any suggestions.

New Business:
Halloween's Haunted House - Jay Rivera would like volunteers to meet with him this coming Thursday evening at 6:30 in the Main Clubhouse.

Halloween Parties -  Maryann and Conrad Zabransky chairing.

Steve Kriso had several ideas including an Open Mike night with the Ambassadors.  He also volunteered to teach an Internet course.  He will speak with Tri-Chairs after meeting.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, August 11 at 12:00 in the Adult Lodge.

There being no further business to come before the meeting, Dianne Kitchell made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Dan Braun and carried by a raise of hands.  Meeting adjourned at 11:33.
