The meeting of the WLEPOA Recreation Committee was called to order at 10:00 a.m. May 14, 2016, by Tri-Chairperson Jeanine Salgueiro. All rose for the Pledge of Allegiance. Twenty-nine members in good standing were present. Gwenn Phillips read the minutes of the preceding meeting.
Motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Diane Mula, seconded by Peggy Kostyshyn, and passed by membership.
Diane Carrotozzolo read the Treasurer's Report for April 2016. Beginning balance was $24,066.49; income for April $242.95; expenses $0, current total is $24,309.44. Motion was made by Chuck Miller to accept Treasurer's report, seconded by Jean McGlynn, so carried.
Chuck Miller reported on the Kentucky Derby. Seventy-two people attended and the event was a success. Off the top of his head, Chuck reported a total profit of $848.00. He thanked all his volunteers for a job well done.
Jeanine S reported on all the activities set for Memorial Day Weekend. She intends to have information available to encourage membership in Recreation. Peggy and Diane chair the Brunch Saturday, May 28, at 11:00 in the main clubhouse. Tickets will be $7.00 per person, tickets for children five and under $3.50. Cut-off will be 100 people.
Rockin & Rollin Into Summer (Meet your Neighbor) activities will be Saturday, May 28, from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m., chaired by Cynthia Dennis and Christine Salgueiro. A bake sale will be part of the festivities.
A Scavenger Hunt has been planned by Christine S for Sunday, May 29, starting 2:00 p.m. Scavenger hunt will be geared to families. Sign-ups will be in office.
Comedy Night has been organized by Michelle Gorman for Sunday evening, tickets required.
Music in the Park has been scheduled by Terry Cuccinniello. Dates are as follows:
July 16 - The Texas Wranglers
July 23 - Take 3
July 30 - Silver Meteor
August 6 - What's His Face
August 20 - Jake's County Band
Terry C also reported that Texas Hold'Em is scheduled for July 8 and August 6 in the Adult Lodge.
Diane C reported that Card Night has been very successful and attendance is good - even before summer starts.
Swim Team - Jeanine has been in touch with Rachel. They have already attended league meeting and are taking inventory. Rachel confident with Kerri's leadership.
July 4 - Christine S chairing. It will be held July 2, 2016.
Flea Market scheduled for July 23. Bree hopes to expand this year; urged us to pray for good weather.
Comedy Night also scheduled by Michelle G for August 13 at MCH.
Jeanine has been contacted by studio interesting in providing dance and/or Zumba classes. Chuck M reminded those present of WLE policy not allowing anyone to run a business (charge fee) at MCH.
Vinny Settepani is working on Dinner Theatre or dinner of some type. He will also provide hot dogs on Sunday at 2:00 for Scavenger Hunt; and for Flea Market.
Vinny has spoken with Nikki regarding Fall Festival. She has very few volunteers and is concerned about event. Diane C suggested that he tell her she should outline details when listing volunteer jobs. Frank C suggested putting volunteer list on channel 20 for both July 4 and Fall Festival. Tricky Tray letters for Fall Festival have gone out; contract is signed
Labor Day Events still need chair. Terry C offered to run triathlon.
Frank C advised that outdoor projector is all set; possibly have a movie one Saturday night in late June; could be after a music presentation.
Diane Kitchell is ready for Family Bingo in July and August. It will start the first Tuesday after July 4 (July 5). She reminded committee that the old bingo equipment is still down at MCH. Consensus was to dispose of it.
Terry C will chair Fishing Derby on August 6. There will be a clinic from 9:30 - 10:00; the Derby itself will be 10:00 - 11:00. She wondered what her budget would be; and requested that Vinny supply hot dogs at this event.
Terry C advised that she arranged for a Mohican Sun trip on August 15. The bus will leave at 10:00 a.m. Cost will be $20 per seat. Each participant will receive $25 in slot pay and a $5 coupon toward lunch. Sign-ups will begin in June.
Terry C. reminded that we need a Recreation Coordinator this summer as well as several assistants. These are paid positions. It was suggested to use Channel 20 again for advertising these jobs in addition to usual methods.
Dianne Kitchell brought a question to Recreation regarding the Thursday morning breakfasts. Jane Miller is stepping down as coordinator. Vinny informed those present about the history of the breakfasts. It is not a Recreation event.
Frank C wondered if boat building would be part of the Labor Day festivities. Bob Assenheimer inquired about collecting the cardboard. Members present thought that it would but no chair yet for Labor Day.
Much discussion followed including
- Popcorn machine and use at movies (needs to coordinate with Snack Bar).
- Joe Mongalieri reminded that there are two tv's at MCH used for Karaoke. Some discussion about their location. Recreation has a Karaoke machine - Jeanine will look into where it is.
- Pat Mongalieri offered to purchase new cards.
- Vinny S advised of township clean-up on June 8 from 8 - 12:00. Reasonable fees.
Our next scheduled meeting will conflict with the WLE Annual Board meeting. Our meeting next month will be June 18 at 10:00 a.m
There being no further business, Diane Mula made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Rose Lembo, all in favor. Meeting was adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
